NPA Lectures

NPA members enjoy five free lectures a year, plus reduced fees to the annual Nicolay Lecture in March.

Most NPA lectures are held at the Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH). Driving directions. CUH offers plenty of free parking. Doors open at noon for plant, book and seed sales, and refreshments. For the convenience of our members in the South Sound area, two lectures are held at Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood. On the day of these lectures, members enjoy free admission to this beautiful garden.

Be sure to bring your NPA card to get in free. Spouses are included in your membership, so they get in free, too. You’re also welcome to bring a friend—nonmembers pay $5. Not a member? You can join at the door or join now.

This is your chance to browse choice plants from select nurseries, at tables set up outside the lecture hall. Inside, at the book table, you’ll find a wonderful selection of gardening books, available at a discount to NPA members. To find out how to special order books and save 25-35%, click here.

At the Seed Exchange, NPA offers a large assortment of fresh seeds collected from the NPA Borders and members’ gardens, available to NPA members for just 25 cents. See our Seed List.

The meeting begins at 1 pm with a drawing for door prizes. This is followed by brief announcements about NPA events, then the lecture itself, which usually lasts an hour.

Nicolay Memorial Lecture

This lecture, usually in spring, features a celebrity speaker and costs $5 for NPA members/$10 for nonmembers. Kevin Nicolay was one of the founders of NPA. His story.
