Albers Vista Gardens was created to preserve, enhance, and aesthetically display a collection of unique and botanically diverse plants. The setting is a beautiful 4.2 acre southwest facing slope, which has a saltwater view of the Port Washington Narrows and Phinney Bay and the surrounding hillsides; the view is framed by the Olympic Mountains to the west and a vista of Mount Rainier to the southeast. Nestled into the hillside is a striking new building housing a horticulture library and meeting room idea for horticulture workshops. The garden is comprised of fifteen different garden rooms including a pristine native woodland containing mature madrone and Bigleaf maple trees, a woodland garden designed to house a special collection of rhododendrons and companion plants, a majestic California Redwood surrounded by drought-resistant and deer-resistant perennials and scrubs, a Stroll Gallery that features plants from all over the world, and Sam's Conifer Reserve displaying over a hundred different dwarf conifers. Examples of special collections include nearly 400 different species and cultivars of conifers, over 100 cultivars of heaths and heathers, and over 60 kinds of maples. Come join us in this oasis to be inspired and learn about creating and maintaining a sustainable landscape with extraordinary plants for the Puget Sound region.
Also open to the public for self-guided tours every Friday between May 1st and June 26th from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. Please see our website for a list of guided garden tours.

The Bellevue Botanical Garden (BBG) is an urban refuge encompassing 53 acres of cultivated gardens, restored woodlands, and natural wetlands. It is comprised of 11 distinct smaller gardens, each with its own focus and character, including the NPA Perennial Border, Waterwise Garden, Fuchsia Garden, Yao Garden, and Native Discovery Garden.
The BBG is a public garden jewel resulting from the successful partnership between the City of Bellevue and nine Garden Partner groups, who provide support to develop and maintain many of the Garden's most beautiful displays. It is a regional destination garden, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and there’s no admission fee.
The Northwest Perennial Alliance supports and maintains the much praised mixed perennial garden, known as the NPA Border. It is a featured attraction at the botanical garden, and serves as a showcase for what grows best in Puget Sound gardens - with hundreds of varieties of perennials, bulbs, ferns, grasses, shrubs and trees.

Mission: We preserve and enhance Dunn Gardens as a public resource, celebrating the 1915 Olmstead design, and showcasing the evolution of garden design in the Pacific Northwest.
The 7-acre gardens were part of the estate of Arthur and Jeannette Dunn, who purchased the land for their summer home. James Dawson, of the Olmstead Brothers firm, was commissioned to emphasize the natural features of the land, taking advantage of the gradual slope of the property to emphasize the sweeping views of Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. Large, pre-existing stands of second-growth Douglas firs were incorporated into the plan, which also included flowering shrubs and trees. Stands of trees edged by perennial beds frame areas of open lawn.
The original landscape remains, complete with curving paths, drives and a great lawn, in addition to the E.B. Dunn Woodland Garden. Designed by Arthur's son Edward, the 2.5-acre woodland garden is forested with firs and deciduous trees planted by Dunn, along with a variety of other woodland plantings. The estate and gardens were listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Commercial photography since 1990 - these days I specialize in horticulture which started in 2004 when Monrovia contracted me to shoot for a day. That has since taken me to becoming their principle photographer. I also delight in photographing B&B's and other architecture.
My biggest joy comes from joining with garden designers and garden owners, photographing said gardens and seeing them come to life in print. I have been honored to grace the pages and covers of Fine Gardening magazine, the late Garden Design, This Old House, Garden Gate, Sunset and the last 2 Sunset Western Garden books along with the 'Tapestry Garden' on the Northwest Garden Nursery recently released, to name a few.
I'll look forward to seeing you on the Open Garden tours, camera in hand and know, I always ask for permission first, before shooting!

Hidden in South Seattle, Kubota Garden is a stunning landscape that blends Japanese garden concepts with plants from all corners of the world. The Kubota Garden began in 1927 as the vision of Fujitaro Kubota. He started with 5 acres and eventually expanded it to the 20 acres we see today. Not trained as a Landscape Gardener, he used his Japanese aesthetic to create a garden style we now recognize as distinctly Northwest, which combines eastern and western garden sensibilities. In 1988, the family sold the garden to the City of Seattle. It is currently managed by the Parks Department. On its grounds you will find a wide variety of water features, including streams, waterfalls and ponds. Extensive stonework, intriguing structures and thousands of plants of great interest complete this spectacular garden.

Millennium Landscape & Construction is owned by Heather Jellerson, and managed with the help of her husband, Keith. Heather has been an accidental gardener for 30 years, and a professional one for 18 years now – and she jokes that she was an indentured servant to her Mom growing up on 10 acres on Lake Sammamish. Heather’s interest in landscaping grew from an attraction to beautiful spaces, and a life-long concern for the environment. Her fascination with plants really bloomed when she bought her first house in the Greenlake neighborhood, and had to learn how to garden in the shade. She began her first summer as a landscaper helping out some clients of her soon-to-be husband Keith, out of the back of her Jetta. Calluna’s Gardens was born the next year. Calluna’s became Millennium in 2017.

Plant LLC is a landscape design firm, and rare plant nursery.
Plant LLC nursery specializes in rare and exceptional plants, collected and trialed by Shayne Chandler in his garden design/build work since 1995. Many of the plants are collections made on international expeditions to such far-flung locations as Tasmania, Vietnam, Equador, China and India. The nursery shares residence with Shayne's extensive 5-acre personal home garden, and is open by appointment, as well as during garden open events. Plant LLC can also be found at most of the Heronswood plant sales.
Plant LLC landscape design provides design, installation or consultation. Whether a new design, or the refurbishing of an existing garden, Shayne Chandler works closely with the clients to help create a well-integrated garden that fits both the architecture, the site qualities, and the needs of the client. With extensive plant knowledge, he uses folial texture and color, and interesting bark and berries, to extend the design well beyond the flowers of summer, providing a garden that can be enjoyed year-round.

We are a small, family-maintained garden located on the northwest side of Seattle’s Capitol Hill, on a steep hillside. We garden over one acre, in several different pieces. Our private gardens surround our two houses on Broadway East, just north of the East Blaine Street stairway and are open by appointment. The newer portions of the garden, open to the public year round, comprises two sections. The first section lie south of the East Blaine stairs. In 1996 we donated these lots to the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the city purchasing three lots, the second section, south of ours which were in danger of development. We now manage both parts as one garden.
