Description from Heritage Hydrangeas: Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Perfection’ is a small shrub, allegedly remontant. It has extra sturdy stems which hold the double blooms upright. Having a compact, rounded form it is suitable for small gardens and containers. It is a recent acquisition for us and we have not yet been able to achieve blue flowers; it appears quite determined to remain pink. Grow in part shade to prevent too much fading of the flowers. The dark green foliage provides a great backdrop for the bright pink or light blue mophead flowers. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Perfection’ originated from a cross conducted in the Rijoyi Irie’s trial garden in June 1996 in Kyoto, Japan between an unnamed plant of Hydrangea macrophylla from the Inventor’s breeding collection as the female parent and Hydrangea macrophylla `Yamaajisai` Inflorescence: Mophead, 160mm across. The corymb is stellar bright pink or blue/purple with double florets. Fertile flowers do not open. Bred by Ryoji Irie, Kyoto, Japan, in 2000. Synonyms: H. m. Double Dellghts™ ‘Perfection’ (Ball Ornamentals, USA); H. m. You & Me™ Series ‘Perfection’ (Plants Management, Australia). Zones: 6 to 9 Size: Small (to 1m).
